product description
Stenopus scutellatus - Karibische Gelbkörper Scherengarnele
Stenopus scutellatus, commonly known as the Caribbean Boxer Shrimp, is a striking and less common species from the tropical western Atlantic. With its long white claws, bright red body, and bold white bands, it adds elegance and color to any marine aquarium. Closely related to the well-known Stenopus hispidus, this species stays slightly smaller and tends to be more peaceful.
- Origin: Caribbean Sea, Florida, Bahamas, and Gulf of Mexico
- Maximum size: around 4–5 cm
- Temperature: 24–27 °C (75–81 °F)
- Diet: Frozen food, detritus, leftover food
- Behavior: Peaceful toward other species; may be territorial toward conspecifics
- Special feature: Acts as a cleaner shrimp, removing parasites from fish
- Minimum tank size: From 80 L (approx. 21 gal)
Stenopus scutellatus is both a decorative and functional addition to the marine aquarium. Its refined appearance and fascinating cleaning behavior make it a rewarding species to keep. With sufficient hiding places and calm tankmates, it thrives and contributes to a balanced reef environment.
