Pectinia is a coral genus classified as Large Polyp Scleractinia (LPS) and belongs to the Merulinidae family. They are reef-building stony corals distributed throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific. The highly fused skeletal structure is conspicuous, forming lettuce leaf-like lobes. Pectinia are therefore referred to as comb corals. Due to their attractive shape, the skeletons were also popular collectibles.
They are moderately difficult corals to keep, the most important thing is a varied current so that sediment cannot be deposited on the tissue. Especially the tips are endangered by lack of nutrients and during transport and get damaged easily - it is best to separate dead spots cleanly, otherwise they are quickly colonized by algae. The light should be weak to moderately strong. Color is usually olive brown to green, sometimes with contrasting colored oral discs - specimens with orange or yellow ones known as Space Invaders are especially popular.
