Heteractis is a genus of sea anemone in the family Stichodactylidae. The genus name indicates that these anemones have tentacle groups with different lengths. Several species exist that are of aquaristic interest, especially as symbiotic partners for clownfish, because they keep well and reach tolerable final sizes. Heteractis aurora, Heteractis crispa, Heteractis malu and Heteractis magnifica are therefore extremely popular in marine aquarium keeping. The typical coloration for most species is white with purple tips, rarely with green. The only exception is H. magnifica, which shows greater color variability and also produces fully colored specimens. In general, keeping is moderately easy because there are fewer demands on water quality and they usually attach themselves readily to rockwork.
