Polycarpa is a genus of sea squirts. They are sessile tunicates that have a global range from arctic to tropical regions. There are a variety of species, about half of which are probably synonyms of other species - even more than for corals, for invertebrates like sea squirts it is often difficult to locate and compare type material. Most species live solitarily on the seafloor. Sea squirts pump water through their mantle to filter food. Surprisingly, they belong to the chordates and are thus closely related to vertebrates.
