One oft the top priority in seawater reefing is the reliability of the heating elements. Titanium heating elements are generally more durable and mechanically more stable than standard heating elements with a glass jacket, but they require a separate temperature controller for control. Adjustable heaters made of glass are more prone to defects and often lead to a power failure if they break. When it comes to heating technology, it is important to ensure that the heating output is precisely matched to the tank volume and that the water temperature is neither above nor below the optimum.
Depending on the manufacturer, the models are equipped with different features such as dry run protection, durable and corrosion-resistant materials and a heat shield.
Tip: for reef tanks with a volume much more than 100 liters, there are already instantaneous water heaters which regulate the temperature more precisely, more consistently and more easily. More heating is required in cold months and more cooling in hot summer months.
