Galaxea is a genus of LPS (Large Polyp Scleractinaria), large polyp stony corals. They are found in the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea. The colonies grow flat, as chunks or in the case of G. archelia also branch-shaped. They are easy to propagate for stony corals. The polyps are large and have clearly recognizable long tentacles, which is why they can be easily divided.
An unpleasant peculiarity is that the animals can form more than 10 cm long fighting tentacles, with which they defend their growing space against other corals by stinging them. Therefore they should be placed with due distance and best in the current shadow to other corals. Galaxea are easy to keep, as they have few demands on water quality; with good nutrient supply they can grow rapidly.
