Calcium and kalk reactors
In addition to the supply of trace elements according to Hans-Werner Balling, the kalk reactor is used in large marine aquarium to further supply the corals and invertebrates with trace elements and macroelements. Especially calcium and carbonate hardness are bonded very quickly in every well –run marine aquarium and the values more or less reduce rapidly. In a chalk reactor, the coral breakage even dead coral branches are dissolved due to CO2 addition (=Reduction of pH-value in the reactor). The elements stored in the calcium carbonate skeletons are not actually solvable but they get dissolved at a pH-value under pH7. Strong internal circulation requires the release. The solution arising in the reactor is added in the aquarium dropwise according to the consumption.
