product description
Rhynchocinetes uritai - Hinge-beak Prawns
Rhynchocinetes uritai, commonly known as the Dancing Shrimp or Humpback Shrimp, is a beautifully patterned species easily recognized by its rhythmic, “dancing” movements. Its red-and-white coloration and distinctive body shape make it a striking addition to any marine aquarium. It is both entertaining to watch and useful as a scavenger that helps keep the tank clean.
- Origin: Western Pacific – from Japan and Indonesia to parts of the Indian Ocean
- Maximum size: around 5–6 cm
- Temperature: 24–27 °C (75–81 °F)
- Diet: Frozen food, fine granules, leftovers, detritus
- Behavior: Peaceful, though may show mild territoriality toward conspecifics
- Special feature: Most active at dusk and during the night. It might be possible that they feed on acropora eating flatworms, but they also might feed on corals (e.g. soft corals)
- Minimum tank size: From 60 L (approx. 16 gal)
Rhynchocinetes uritai is an attractive and lively shrimp species that brings motion and color to reef aquariums. It prefers rocky crevices and shaded areas for shelter during the day and performs its characteristic “dance” after dark. Peaceful and easy to care for, it coexists well with other small reef inhabitants.
