product description
Cryptocentrus cinctus with Alpheus bellulus - Prawn-goby and
Sample picture. Animals not shown to scale. You will receive one symbiose goby with snapping shrimp.
The Yellow Prawn-Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) is a real asset for the marine water aquarium - both because of its bright yellow color as well as the unique behavior.
Yellow Prawn-Gobies live in symbiosis with pistol shrimps (mostly Alpheus bellulus) in which the Goby is allowed to live in the cave of the shrimp and the Goby warns the shrimp of dangers in return. For this reason a pistol shrimp should be present in the aquarium. Indeed it’s possible to keep the Goby without symbiotic partner, but it’s less close to nature and you also miss an exciting phenomenon.
In addition the tank should contain at least 300 litres and have a water temperature between 22 and 28°C. The Gobies eat both granular and flake food as well as frozen and live foods (e.g. Artemia). Moreover it’s recommended to keep them as pair.
Generally Cryptocentrus cinctus are easy-care and peaceful ornamental fish that are kind of shy and therefore should be kept with calm animals.

The Tiger Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus bellulus) usually live together with symbiotic gobies. The symbiose pair will move into a shared burrow and is very interesting to watch. Especially in nano aquariums and other small tanks the behavior is very entertaining. This pistol shrimp grows to about 5 cm. Thanks to its wide natural range, it can be kept with all symbiose gobies, for example the Yellow prawn-goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus), the Hi Fin Red Banded Goby (Stonogobiops nematodes) or Amblyeleotris species (A. aurora, A. guttata, A. periophthalma, etc).
