product description
Tridacna Squamosa Zebra
Sizes given are estimates based on fully open clams, sometimes with fully extended mantles. Slight deviations are possible.
Tridacna squamosa is a "killer clam" species and very popular in reef aquariums. These animals are relatively fast growing, especially when small, and can reach final sizes of around 35-45 cm according to literature. They are a bit more hardy than other giant clam species and can tolerate smaller mistakes. Fully grown (30+ cm), long established clams are often sensitive when transplanting them to other aquariums, though. A special rarity are blue colored specimens, while the species colors are usually brownish to white. Their colors are caused by refraction, similar to a butterfly's wings, and they vary drastically with the angle of view. They look brightest when viewed from above.
Our clams are usually sustainably grown in mariculture.
