Euphyllia usually comes to us from the Indo-Pacific waters (Indonesia) and is often known in Germany as hammer coral due to its shape. The big tentacles fluoresce mostly in bright colours. Euphyllia builds big colonies in nature in a short period beneath the reef tops and are very well maintained in the aquarium. So Euphyllia-species are ideal as the beginner-corals and are also recommended for the initial stocking of a coral aquarium; due to the extremely beautiful colours they are very popular among the collectors and experts.

Keeping Euphyllia & Catalaphyllia corals

Zooxanthella but loves plancton!

We ship Euphyllia and Catalaphyllia frags and bigger sticks through our marine online shop at reasonable prices to our customers all over Europe. At our facilities in Stuttgart, Euphyllia and Catalaphyllia are packed very carefully and sold both to the dealer and private marine aquarists. All our offered corals are WYSIWYG (=Original images), this means you receive the exact animal which you have ordered.

Euphyllia – water flow and water parameter as well as lighting

From light to medium, Euphyllia corals thrives best in rapidly changing water flow. Strong, direct water flow should be avoided since this would damage the tissue of corals. They certainly bear strong lighting, however in the bottom area of the marine tank. The nitrate- and phosphate values should somewhat be increased in comparison to SPS; here Euphyllias are especially not demanding and thus also recommended for freshly set up tanks. A stable carbonate hardness should be observed which should always be more than KH 6.

Flow & Lightening for Catalaphyllia

The Catalaphyllias does not need any strong lighting and thus a marine tank is ideally suitable for the bottom area. Like Euphyllia, Catalyphyllia also does not need direct, strong water flow where it should be handled very carefully. Tissue damages should be avoided.

Euphyllia & Catalaphyllia corals – Feeding

In our marine aquarium the LPS corals should not be fed mandatorily since like most of the LPS corals due to stored zooxanthella, they live on light. Additional feed with zooplankton which Euphyllias catch through its tentacles from the water, thank it for its shining colours and regular growth. These are available online on our marine shop. It is suitable for Goldpods (Calanus), Chromys (Mysis) and Artemis (Artemis) for feeding Euphyllias. Best is to give the feed 1-2 times per week directly via a pipette to the mouth opening with switched off water flow.

Euphyllia & Catalaphyllia corals – Feeding

Catalaphyllia thrive significantly better when fed with zooplankton and stretches out its tentacles at night. They can also be maintained very well with the above known feed additives.
