Synchiropus moyeri
SYNCHIROPUS MOYERI - MOYER’S DRAGONET
Moyers Leierfisch (Synchiropus moyeri) is a real rarity on the sea water market. The exact specification is difficult what’s indeed not uncommon in marine aquaristics - the fish is also in trade as Synchiropus sp. Scarlet and Synchiropus tudorjonesi.
Characteristic for Moyers Leierfisch is the bright red color with contrasting yellow drawings which makes it a beautiful eye-catcher in any tank. In adult state the animal is up to 5 cm long. Also the fish is known to be very robust and peaceful, only in contact with other Dragonets there could be complications.
Because of their small size Synchiropus moyeri can also be kept in small tanks from 130 litres with a water temperature between 23 and 27°C. To keep them single or as pair is recommended.
What constitutes a major challenge and makes the Dragonet unsuitable for beginners are the high food requirements. He is a very difficult and slow eater so he can emaciate easily. For this reason the aquarium should always provide enough microfauna with microorganisms that the fish can eat in addition to frozen food like lobster eggs. This microfauna is usually only available in well acclimated tanks.
Please note that normally no females are available and therefore the selection of sex or couples is not possible - however males also seem to get along with each other peacefully.
