Salarias fasciatus - Sailfin Blenny
Sample Picture. Size: M
The Sailfin Blenny, Salarias fasciatus, is a popular fish to combat algae growth. The species is especially good at eradicating hairy algae, which makes them interesting when cycling a new tank. The fish is also known as Algae Blenny or Lawnmower Blennybecause of this.
Care of Salarias fasciatus is easy. The Blenny is resistant against disease and easily adapts to aquarium life. Thus, it is suitable for beginners. As a herbivore it is very important to offer enough algae or other vegetable foods if you want to care for your Sailfin Blenny for a long time – for example, it’s possible to leave part of the aquarium glass uncleaned. Wrong food will lead to a bloated belly, adiposis and finally, death.
Slarias fasciatus is very territorial, so it is not possible to keep multiples of them even in very large tanks. According to various reports, Kole Tangs (Ctenochaetos strigosus) will not get along with them as they compete for the same food.
