Turbo setosus, commonly known as the Bristly Turbo Snail, originates from the Indo-Pacific and is one of the most popular algae grazers in the marine aquarium hobby. Its spiral-shaped, often slightly overgrown shell makes it a subtle but effective asset in the fight against unwanted algae.

Turbo setosus primarily feeds on biofilm and algae growing on rocks, decorations, and glass surfaces. It does its work thoroughly and reliably without disturbing corals or other tank inhabitants. Thanks to its strong foot muscle, it holds firmly in place even in areas with high flow. Peaceful, hardy, and easy to care for – this snail is a valuable addition to any reef aquarium.

• Feeding: Natural biofilm, green algae, supplemental nori
• Size: Up to approx. 4–5 cm shell diameter
• Minimum tank size: 100 liters (approx. 26 gallons)
• Compatibility: Peaceful – safe with all reef-safe tankmates

Identification Note – Turbo setosus vs. Turbo fluctuosus:
Turbo setosus can be identified by its operculum, which has a visible “tiger eye” pattern on the underside (see image 2). In contrast, Turbo fluctuosus has a more snail-shaped operculum.
