product description
Nassarius sp. - Nassa Sand Snail
Nassarius sp., commonly known as the Net Reusens Snail or Sand Snail, is an extremely useful and active sand-dwelling species in marine aquariums. These small snails live buried in the substrate and quickly emerge when they detect food. Using their long, tubular siphon, they locate organic matter and help keep the sand clean and aerated.
- Origin: Indo-Pacific – from East Africa and Indonesia to the western Pacific
- Maximum size: about 2–3 cm
- Temperature: 24–27 °C (75–81 °F)
- Diet: Leftover food, detritus, carrion
- Behavior: Peaceful; buried during the day, active at night
- Special feature: Aerates the sand and prevents the formation of anaerobic zones
- Minimum tank size: From 30 L (approx. 8 gal)
Nassarius sp. is an essential member of the aquarium’s clean-up crew. By scavenging for leftover food and constantly moving through the sand, it promotes a healthy and stable substrate. Hardy, efficient, and easy to care for, it is an excellent choice for all tanks with sandy bottoms.
