product description
Fromia indica - Vulcano Starfish
The Vulcan Sea Star (Fromia indica) is a colorful starfish from the family Goniasteridae and is native to the Indo-Pacific region. With its bright red to orange coloration and often darker surface patterns, it is an eye-catching invertebrate for marine aquariums. This sea star slowly moves across rocks and reef structures, adding natural diversity and interest to the aquarium.
- Origin and Natural Habitat
Fromia indica originates from the coral reefs of the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific. It inhabits reef substrates, rocky areas, and coral structures, where it slowly moves across the surface in search of food. - Aquarium Care
The Vulcan Sea Star requires a well-established and stable marine aquarium with plenty of live rock. It is sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters and should only be introduced into mature reef systems. Careful acclimation is especially important. - Feeding
Fromia indica mainly feeds on biofilm, microorganisms, and organic matter growing on rocks and reef surfaces. In mature aquariums with sufficient live rock, it usually finds enough natural food sources. - Tank Mates
The Vulcan Sea Star is a peaceful invertebrate that can be kept with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates. Predatory species that may attack or pick at starfish should be avoided. - Aquarium Size
An aquarium of at least 250 liters (about 65 gallons) is recommended, providing stable water conditions and sufficient live rock for natural grazing. - Special Features
The Vulcan Sea Star stands out with its intense coloration and decorative appearance in reef aquariums. It slowly moves across rocks and reef structures, making it an interesting and visually appealing addition to established reef systems.
