product description
Clypeaster humilis - Sanddollar
Clypeaster humilis, commonly known as the Sand Dollar, is a fascinating species of flattened sea urchin. With its symmetrical, disk-shaped body and the characteristic star pattern on its surface, it resembles a natural piece of ocean art. These animals live buried in the sand and play an important ecological role by loosening the substrate and processing organic material. They are one of the most famous sand cleaners in reef tanks
- Origin: Indo-Pacific – from East Africa to the western Pacific
- Maximum size: up to approx. 8–10 cm in diameter
- Temperature: 24–27 °C (75–81 °F)
- Diet: Fine organic particles, detritus, microalgae
- Behavior: Peaceful; lives buried in sand
- Special feature: can be sensitive to poor water quality and coarse substrate
- Minimum tank size: From 100 L with fine sand substrate
Clypeaster humilis is an extraordinary marine invertebrate that adds a calm, natural touch to any sandy or lagoon-style aquarium. Due to its specific needs, it should be kept only in mature tanks with fine sand, where it can thrive and exhibit its natural behavior.
