product description
Halichoeres trispilus - Threespot Wrasse
The Three-spot Wrasse is an active and hardy member of the wrasse family, easily recognized by the three distinct dark spots on its body. This striking pattern gives the species its common name. Like many Halichoeres species, Halichoeres trispilus is a very active daytime swimmer, constantly searching the reef for food and adding noticeable movement to the aquarium.
The species displays typical wrasse behavior with a strong exploratory nature. When threatened or during resting periods at night, the Three-spot Wrasse buries itself in fine sand, making a suitable sandy substrate essential for proper care. Halichoeres trispilus is considered relatively resilient and adapts well to established marine aquariums.
Origin: Indo-Pacific, coral reefs and lagoons with sandy areas.
Aquarium size: Recommended from approximately 400 liters, providing open swimming space and a sandy substrate.
Behavior: Active and constantly moving during the day, resting buried in sand at night.
Compatibility: Generally compatible with peaceful to semi-aggressive fishes; may prey on very small invertebrates.
Diet: Carnivorous; readily accepts frozen and live foods such as Mysis, Artemia, Krill, and other meaty foods.
Special characteristics: Requires fine sand for burying behavior; may help control unwanted small invertebrates.
Summary:
Halichoeres trispilus is an attractive and energetic wrasse suitable for medium to large marine aquariums. With proper substrate and compatible tankmates, it is a hardy and engaging species for both advanced and dedicated aquarists.
