Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasses (Labroides dimidiatus) are among the most fascinating animals of marine aquaristics. As the name suggests they clean other fish in the aquarium of skin parasites and dead skin - which represents a useful symbiosis because both the health of the cleaned fish as well as the diet of the cleaner fish gets promoted. Not least the cleaning process is an exciting spectacle. The animals are about 8 - 10 cm tall and have a modest coloration with shimmering blue accents. Labroides dimidiatus are peaceful and easy-care and adapt fast in the marine water aquarium. To keep them species-appropriate the tank should have a minimum size of 200 liters and a temperature of 22 - 27°C. In addition enough other animals should be present in the aquarium so the Wrasse has enough potential cleaning partners, otherwise the fish stocking can get stressed easily and could chase the Cleaner Wrasse. Moreover there schould be enough reef constructions and swimming space because the fish is really agile and likes to swin close to riffs. The additional feeding of the fish should be done several times a day with small amounts of frozen foods, live foods (e.g. Mysis, Artemia, Calanus, mussel meat, lobster eggs, zooplankton), flakes or granular foods. Cleaner Wrasses can be held alone or as pair while the behaviour of a pair is particulary beautiful and harmonious. Moreover it should be noted that cleaner fish like to nibble Tridacna clams what can harm these.
