Zebrasoma xanthurum – Purple Tang

The Purple Tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum) originates from the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. Its deep purple‑blue body and bright yellow tail make it a standout species for larger reef aquariums.

Zebrasoma xanthurum is a strong, active swimmer that requires ample open water, good flow, and rockwork with visual breaks. It may be territorial with conspecifics or similar tangs but coexists well with differently shaped species.

As a herbivore, it needs an algae‑rich diet: dried nori, Spirulina, and specialized herbivore flakes/pellets as staples, with small amounts of frozen foods as supplements. Consistent grazing opportunities support long‑term health.
