product description
Hippocampus erectus - Seahorse
The Hippocampus erectus, commonly known as the Lined Seahorse, is one of the most popular seahorse species in marine aquariums. With its upright posture, gentle swaying movement, and forward-facing head, it has a truly mesmerizing presence. These animals can grow up to 16 cm and exhibit remarkable color variations depending on mood, environment, and diet – ranging from browns and greys to yellows and even reddish tones.
Care and Maintenance:
Hippocampus erectus thrives in calm, low-flow tanks with plenty of hitching spots such as branching gorgonians, artificial rods, or live macroalgae. As slow feeders, they should only be housed with peaceful, non-competitive species. A species-only tank with moderate lighting and consistent feeding is ideal.
Feeding:
These seahorses prefer live or frozen small crustaceans such as Mysis shrimp, Artemia, or copepods. Feeding should be done 2–3 times daily. Captive-bred specimens are typically already accustomed to frozen foods.
