It is especially valued for feeding on pest anemones (Aiptasia), making it a popular choice for natural pest control.
In the wild, Acreichthys tomentosus inhabits seagrass beds and lagoons across the Indo-Pacific. Growing up to 12 cm, it is best suited for aquariums of 300 liters (80 gallons) or more. While generally peaceful, it requires ample hiding places. It may occasionally nip at corals or invertebrates, so caution is advised in reef tanks with sensitive livestock.
