Valenciennea strigata - Sleeper Goldhead Goby
VALENCIENNEA STRIGATA - SLEEPER GOLDHEAD GOBY
The Sleeper Goldhead Goby (Valenciennea strigata), whose golden head is a unique distinctive feature, is a particulary large marine water fish with a size up to 18 cm in adult state.
It shows the typical, useful habit to dig in the substrate of the aquarium while it cleans it by chewing and prevents the growth of algae and cyanobacteria on the sand. However it may happen that corals, shells and other decorative elements are buried with sand while digging - so especially sensitive corals require caution here.
To give Sleeper Goldhead Gobies enough space for digging enough fine and deep substrate should be present in the aquarium. The tank itself should contain at least 400 litres and have a water temperature between 22 and 28°C. A cover should be used because the fish may jump when startled.
The care of Valenciennea strigata is uncomplicated. As feed frozen or live food (e.g. Mysis, Artemia, Calanus, mussel meat, lobster eggs, zooplankton) is best.
Since the gobies can be aggressive towards conspecifics it’s recommended to keep them alone or as matched pair.
