Ptereleotris zebra - Zebra Dartfish
Ptereleotris zebra – Zebra Dartfish
The Ptereleotris zebra, commonly known as the Zebra Dartfish, is an elegant and eye-catching species distinguished by its striped pattern and swift, gliding movements. Native to the tropical Indo-Pacific region, this species is often found hovering above sandy lagoon floors and outer reef slopes in small groups. Its elongated, torpedo-shaped body and bold black stripes give it a striking appearance, reminiscent of a miniature predator – though it is entirely peaceful and gentle in nature.
The Zebra Dartfish is an active yet calm swimmer that spends most of its time in the midwater zone. It thrives in peaceful community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish. A sandy substrate and a few rock crevices or coral structures provide essential shelter and comfort. Keeping them in pairs or small groups helps reduce shyness and brings out their natural schooling behavior.
When well cared for, Ptereleotris zebra grows to about 10–12 cm in length. It usually acclimates easily and readily accepts frozen foods such as Mysis, Artemia, and fine plankton.
