Ptereleotris microlepis - Blue Gudgeon
Ptereleotris microlepis, commonly known as the Blue Gudgeon Dartfish, is a slender and elegant reef fish that captivates with its shimmering blue coloration and graceful swimming movements. It originates from the Indo-Pacific, where it is often found in lagoons and outer reef areas, typically in loose schools.
Behavior and Care:
This peaceful and social species is well-suited for community aquariums. It thrives best when kept in pairs or small groups. Ptereleotris microlepis usually hovers above the reef structure in the open water column and requires plenty of swimming space. Hiding places such as rock crevices or sandy burrows are important, as the fish retreat quickly when threatened.
Feeding:
Feeding is uncomplicated. The species readily accepts fine frozen foods such as Artemia, Mysis, or Cyclops. High-quality granulated or flake foods are also taken. Several small feedings throughout the day promote vitality and well-being.
Aquarium Recommendations:
Minimum tank size: approx. 300 liters
Social structure: Best kept in pairs or small groups
Temperament: Very peaceful, ideal for community tanks with other calm species
Setup: Open swimming space with hiding spots among reef rocks
Special Features:
With their calm and elegant swimming style, Ptereleotris microlepis add harmony and movement to the reef aquarium. Their soft, bluish coloration is particularly attractive under modern aquarium lighting.
