product description
Cirrhithichthys aureus - Yellow Hawkfish
The Golden Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys aureus) belongs to the hawkfish family (Cirrhitidae) and is found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. With its bright golden-yellow coloration and its characteristic behavior of perching on coral branches or rocks, it is a striking inhabitant of reef aquariums. Hawkfishes are ambush predators that carefully observe their surroundings and quickly dart out to capture passing prey.
- Origin and Natural Habitat
Cirrhitichthys aureus originates from the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It typically inhabits areas with abundant branching corals and rocky reef structures. The fish often rests on elevated positions such as coral branches or rocks, where it keeps watch for small prey items. - Aquarium Care
The Golden Hawkfish is considered a robust and relatively easy-to-keep species. A well-structured reef aquarium with plenty of perching spots and stable water parameters is important. Branching corals or rock structures are particularly appreciated as resting and observation points. - Feeding
As a carnivorous species, the Golden Hawkfish primarily feeds on small crustaceans. In aquariums it readily accepts frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, artemia, or finely chopped krill. High-quality pellets or flakes are also often accepted once the fish is acclimated. - Tank Mates
Cirrhitichthys aureus is generally peaceful toward most reef fish but may show territorial behavior toward conspecifics or similar-looking species. Very small shrimp or other tiny crustaceans may be viewed as prey. - Aquarium Size
An aquarium of at least 200 liters (about 50 gallons) is recommended, providing sufficient swimming space and a reef structure with multiple perching locations. - Special Features
The Golden Hawkfish is a typical perching ambush predator. Rather than constantly swimming, it spends much of its time resting on elevated reef structures while observing its surroundings. This distinctive behavior makes it a particularly interesting and charismatic addition to reef aquariums.
