Heteractis magnifica is a large anemone species from the reefs of the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea. It is one of the natural symbiosis partners of the false clownfish Amphiprion ocellaris and a total of 10 to 12 other Amphiprion species, depending on the author. It is also sometimes called Ritteri anemone after its old synonym Radianthus ritteri, or magnificent anemone. It typically reaches sizes up to 50 cm, but occasionally up to 1 m in diameter, and usually prefers a high seat high on the reef on hard substrates at depths up to 20 m, although specimens have been found down to 40 m. Its size and preferred location sometimes make it a more problematic aquarium resident, as it may prefer to sit on top on the glass rather than on the reef construction. The foot is often different in color than the tentacles, beige to purple or green color forms are common, and very rarely spectacular golden individuals occur, which can then look similar to a Golden Torch (Euphyllia glabrescens).
