Aquaforest Air Scrubber
Stability for a Healthy Ecosystem
Reef aquariums require stable conditions to keep corals and other organisms healthy. Everyday activities like breathing, cooking, or having pets can cause fluctuations in CO2 levels in the air, which can affect the pH of the aquarium water. When more CO2 enters the water through the skimmer, it lowers the pH, leading to unstable carbonate hardness (dKH) and hampered coral calcification. Over time, this can stress corals and even lead to coral loss. While photosynthesis helps balance the pH during the day, it tends to drop at night, especially in cooler months when windows are closed. The Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber is designed to help stabilize pH levels and maintain a healthy reef aquarium.
Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Reactor: Efficient CO2 Reduction for Stable pH Levels
The Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Reactor and its CO2-absorbing media offer a solution to fluctuating pH levels by filtering excess CO2 from the air. The reactor is made from high-quality acrylic, making it both durable and aesthetically pleasing, whether placed outside or inside a cabinet. Its design focuses on easy assembly and maintenance while ensuring optimal airflow through the filter media.
One key feature of the reactor is its base, which holds three sponges. These sponges can be soaked in RO (reverse osmosis) water to humidify the air and enhance the CO2 filter's efficiency. For best performance, the sponges should remain moist. If the sponges dry out before the media needs replacing, they can easily be re-soaked, prolonging the filter's lifespan.
The reactor is designed to pull CO2-laden air from the bottom through the sponge layer and guide it upward through the filter media. This ensures the CO2 is removed before the air reaches the aquarium or skimmer. The media is protected by dust-blocking sponges at both ends, ensuring optimal efficiency. The reactor's lid features a quick-release twist cap for easy access, making maintenance simple. An integrated flap ensures the correct airflow direction, allowing the media to be used evenly from bottom to top, making it easy to see when a replacement is needed. The 10 mm/⅜" hose fitting on the lid makes it compatible with most protein skimmers.
Tests have shown that using the Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber can raise the pH by approximately 0.2 to 0.4 points, stabilizing it in the ideal range of 8.0 to 8.4. For optimal performance, we recommend using the Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber together with the Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Media Cartridge.
Product Highlights:
- Reduces CO2 and increases pH levels
- Stabilizes pH fluctuations day and night
- Prevents sudden changes in dKH levels
- Large 2.3-liter capacity
- Innovative design for enhanced media efficiency and longevity
- Compatible with most protein skimmers (10 mm/⅜" hose)
- Easy to use and maintain
- High-quality materials for durability
Important Notes:
- CO2 absorption cartridge is not included in the set.
- pH levels fluctuate throughout the day, so measurements should be taken at the same time each day.
- Spent media may change color, but it will no longer remove CO2 from the air.
- Gloves should be worn, and the media should be replaced in a well-ventilated area.
